- Take 1 inch cinnamon stick
- Provide 2 bay leaves
- You need 1/2 tbs Cumin seeds
- Use 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- You need 1/4 tsp kalonji (black seeds)
- Take 1 tsp Cumin powder
- You need 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- Take 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Provide 1 tsp….or salt to taste
- Provide 1/2-3/4 cup oil
- You need 1 tsp garam masala powder

- Soak the lentil at least for half to an hour…
- Now blend the tomatoes with ginger….. chopped the garlic…and chopped the onion and sliced the Chillies..
- In a deep bottom pan or pateela add oil…. mustard seeds… kalonji… Cumin seeds…..bay leaves…. cinnamon stick
- Stir for 1 minute on low to medium flame then add onion and chopped garlic…cook for 2 minutes until onions get translucent….
- Now add blended tomatoes…and add all dry masalas except garam masala powder.and 2 green chillies cut into halves.
- Cook on medium flame…for 2 to 3 minutes…then don't need to bhoonofy..
- Now add 2 glasses of water and bring to boil….and add in soaked lentil…. slow down the flame and cook for 20 to 25 minutes on steam cooking by covering lid…..it should not be overcooked… grains should be separate…. my daal took this time due to tomatoes sourness….so you should check yours before time…if it will be tender….then turn off the heat…
- Check lentil is tender or not….leave some gravy with it…add garam masala and sliced green chilli and cover for more 1 minute by turning off the heat….it is for good aroma of masala and green chilli……then garnish with fresh coriander and enjoy with roti or naan…. achaaar and salad
